about Dympie

Dympie (Dymphna) is very controlling, she feels that everything has to be her way. she takes herself very seriously, believing that she is the expert on everything. she controls Paula (her best friend) not allowing her to do anything that she (Dympie) does not like. she is rude and bitchy, ordering everyone else around.

although controlling and beliveing that she is always in the right, Dympie will copy what Paula wears in an effort to seem an ‘in’ woman, yet never admitting it. she cares for no-one else but herself (as shown when Monika dissapears and she simply orders Paula to sit down and choose her meal, ignoring the fact that Monika has not long ago lost her husband and is strugling to cope), to the point of insulting & isolating herself from everyone around her.

at the end of the play Dympie is shocked and stunned to find out what people think of her. so self-centred, she has never stopped to think about or realise that her actions were the reason for everyones attitude towards her.

my views on our play

we are doing the play ‘After Dinner’ about five singles. it is a friday night and Paula and Dympie and Monika are going out for a girls dinner. Paula and Dympie are best friends and work mates. Dympie is controlling, demanding and bitchy while Paula is obedient, kind and fashionable. they are having dinner with Monika who works with them. Monika is a widow and this is her first time out since her husband’s death. at the table next to them is Gordon and Stephen. Gorden is a sweet, shy man who has never had luck with girls. Stephen is an outspoken man who is looking for a night out. they are waiting for a mutual friend who never appears.

the play seems to be very funny but challenging. in order to pull it off it will need alot of work and dedication but looks as though it will be great fun to perform.

Hello world!
